Her mom and dad organized such a great first birthday party for Becca at Dewar’s Ice-Cream – Bakersfield last weekend. From menu to decorations everything was just perfect, and the kids had so much fun! I was so honored to be their photographer and capture that happy day for that sweet family.
Becca was hesitant to smash the cake at first, but she had a blast once she warmed up and her big brother Noah started helping her! They were the cutest things ever! :)

When you picture a newborn photography session, you probably imagine those peaceful, curled-up poses of a sleeping baby. 💤 While that’s often the goal, every baby is different, and sometimes, they decide they’d rather stay awake and take in the world instead. If that happens during your session—don’t worry! It’s completely normal, and we embrace it. 🥰
Why Do Babies Stay Awake?
Newborns sleep a lot, but they also have their own little personalities and unpredictable sleep patterns. Some babies are naturally more alert, while others might be going through a growth spurt or adjusting to new surroundings. Sometimes, they just want to see what’s going on! 🤓
What Happens if My Baby Won’t Sleep?
A wide-awake baby doesn’t mean we won’t get beautiful photos. In fact, some of the most captivating images come from babies with their eyes wide open! I take a flexible approach, adjusting our posing and wrapping techniques to ensure both comfort and beautiful results. 🤍
Here’s what we do when babies stay awake:
✔ Capture Eye Contact & Expressions – Those bright, curious eyes and tiny expressions are priceless! I take advantage of this time to capture adorable awake shots.
✔ Use Wrapping Techniques – Babies love to feel snug and secure. Wrapping helps calm them and often leads to them drifting off to sleep naturally.
✔ Go with Natural Poses – Instead of forcing sleepy poses, I let the baby’s natural movements guide me, capturing sweet stretches, yawns, and tiny fingers reaching out.
✔ Pause for Feeding & Comforting – If a baby is unsettled, we take breaks to allow for feeding, cuddling, and soothing. A full belly and cozy warmth often help babies fall asleep.
But What About Sleepy Poses?
Most babies will eventually doze off. Even if your baby stays awake longer than expected, you’ll still walk away with a gallery of stunning images that reflect their unique little personality. 💕
